Program Director

Mr. Macarelli was born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, and attended Lynn Public Schools for most of
his K-12 experience. After high school, Mr. Macarelli attended UMass Boston, where he earned his
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Psychology and then a Master of Education Degree with a focus in
Elementary Education. He also earned his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS) in School
Leadership with a focus in Special Education Administration from American International College.

Mr. Macarelli began his teaching career in the Boston Public Schools as an elementary inclusion teacher
and since then has spent much of his career in the Peabody Public Schools. In Peabody, he has been a
teacher and administrator at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, primarily in special education.
Specifically, he has served as an elementary assistant principal at the South Memorial Elementary School,
director of therapeutic programming (Gr. 6-12), and most recently, IEP team chairperson at Veterans
Memorial High School. He also spent time as the Dean of Students at Manchester-Essex Regional High
School.

Mr. Macarelli’s focus as an educator has been on supporting and advocating for all students to have
equitable access to what they need to grow socially, emotionally, and academically. He is committed to
building a school culture rooted in restorative practices, where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
He aims to work with the Salem Prep faculty to challenge and support students to achieve their goals and
aspirations. He is dedicated to fostering student talents, skills, and creativity so that they transition
successfully to post-high school life.
Personally, Mr. Macarelli is a father to two boys and an avid dog lover. Sports (especially baseball and
boxing) have always been a source of joy and a place where he has built many lasting relationships. Mr.
Macarelli competed at the amateur level in boxing and continues to train to stay active.
